Learning benefits
- 💡 This activity fosters scientific inquiry by allowing children to observe physical changes in matter and experiment with different methods of melting ice. It also enhances fine motor skills crucial for pre-writing and self-care, alongside promoting imaginative storytelling and problem-solving.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Adult supervision is required at all times, especially with younger children, to ensure warm water is not too hot. Small toys can be a choking hazard for children under three years old, so ensure all toys are age-appropriate or this activity is reserved for older children. Remind children not to ingest the salt or the water.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Once play is complete, drain the water from the large plastic bin. Collect all the animal toys and rinse them thoroughly under clean running water, then set them aside to dry completely. Wipe down the plastic bin and all tools with a damp cloth and mild soap if needed, and let them air dry before storing.
