The teller role supports executive function because your child has to remember the request, follow steps, and check the result. Pretend customer conversations give practice with social scripts, flexible thinking, and confident speaking. When you calmly recount after a mistake, you model co-regulation and show that errors are part of the game, not a failure.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Avoid small buttons, real coins, or beads if any child under 3 is present, since they can be choking hazards; use large blocks or jar lids instead. Check buttons for sharp edges, loose shanks, or broken pieces before play. Do not use real money if it will cause conflict, licking, or putting items in mouths; pretend pieces keep the focus on play. Keep cups and the box on a stable surface so pieces do not scatter onto the floor where younger siblings or pets might find them.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Have your child close the bank by counting all buttons or pretend coins back into the vault box or envelope. Stack the cups, recycle or save the account slips, and wipe the play surface if snacks or crayons were involved. If they want to continue later, keep one labeled account card inside the vault as the “open tomorrow” cue.
