Learning benefits

  • 💡 This activity gives children a simple way to notice and change what their body is doing when waiting feels hard. The three-part sequence supports working memory because they remember eagle arms, seatbelt salute, and star breath in order. Slow movement and breathing build self-regulation and co-regulation, especially when you model the pace with your voice. The small cross-body and finger movements also support motor planning and body awareness without needing space to run around.

Safety notes

  • ⚠️ Only use movements that keep your child correctly buckled, with straps and chest clip left in their proper position; do not let them pull the belt away, slip arms under straps, or twist sideways. The driver should not lead with hand motions or turn around while driving; save the full version for when parked or when another adult can guide it. Keep arms below shoulder height if the seat, door, or nearby sibling makes space tight, and stop any move that causes pain, dizziness, or strap shifting.

Cleanup

  • 🧹 There are no materials to put away, so cleanup is mainly a calm reset. Have everyone check that hands are back in laps, straps are still flat, and any dropped items stay dropped until it is safe for an adult to retrieve them. Close with one shared breath before moving on.
