Learning benefits
- 💡 This activity promotes spatial reasoning and fine motor coordination through precise wrapping and placement of materials. Children learn the fundamentals of optics and color theory as they experiment with light passing through different colored cellophane layers. It also encourages creative, open-ended imaginative play and storytelling once the craft is complete.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Sizzors should be used under adult supervision at all times to prevent accidental cuts. Small acrylic rhinestones present a choking hazard for children under 3 years old; ensure younger siblings are kept at a safe distance. Avoid looking directly at the sun through the telescope, as the cellophane does not provide UV protection.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Wipe any stray paint spills off the table immediately with a damp paper cloth. Shake excess glitter from the workspace onto the kraft paper, then roll the paper inward to trap the loose glitter and discard it in the trash. Store any remaining cellophane sheets and plastic rhinestones in a ziplock bag for future crafting projects.
