Learning benefits
- 💡 Molding the white air-dry clay into specific mushroom shapes develops fine motor control and the ability to translate a 2D idea into a 3D object. Following the sequential steps from sculpting to painting to assembly reinforces procedural thinking and patience, as the child must wait for clay and paint to dry.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Ensure the glow-in-the-dark acrylic paint and black craft paint are non-toxic and water-based, but still prevent the child from putting them in their mouth. The air-dry clay is not for consumption. Supervise closely to prevent small clay pieces or twigs from becoming choking hazards.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Wash the small paintbrush and hands with soap and water to remove any residual craft glue and paint. Seal the remaining white air-dry clay in an airtight bag to prevent it from hardening. Wipe down the work surface with a damp cloth.
