- 💡 This activity teaches children about the scientific concept of bioluminescence and how deep-sea animals adapt to pitch-black environments. It enhances spatial awareness and engineering skills as children figure out how to wire the LED light through the plates. Additionally, working with sticky glue and small felt teeth refines bilateral coordination and finger strength.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Adult supervision is required when using staplers and cutting out the initial mouth wedge with scissors. Ensure the LED tealight has a secure, screw-closed battery compartment so children cannot access the button cell batteries. Use only non-toxic, washable school glue and acrylic paints.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Wash paintbrushes and glue cups immediately with warm, soapy water to prevent hardening. Wipe down tables with a damp sponge to remove any stray drips, and bundle up the protective kraft paper sheet for easy disposal or recycling. Store left over felt and tissue paper in a reusable zipper bag for future crafting.
