Learning benefits

  • 💡 This activity significantly strengthens a toddler's leg muscles and improves their balance, crucial for future gross motor skills like running and climbing. It also helps them develop body awareness as they learn to coordinate both feet together for jumping. Milestones this age: Your toddler can kick a ball forward, jump with two feet from a low step, stand on one foot for a moment, and throw a ball overhand. They can also follow two-step directions and speak in 2-3 word phrases.

Safety notes

  • ⚠️ Always provide active supervision to prevent falls. • Ensure the play area is clear of trip hazards. • For jumps involving pillows, use very small, firm pillows and keep them low to the ground to prevent twisting ankles or falls. • Do not leave toddlers unsupervised near any amount of water, even a shallow puddle. • Cut round foods lengthwise, avoid whole grapes, nuts, or hot dog coins to prevent choking. • Remember, screen time should be less than 1 hour a day for children aged 2 and older, and always co-viewed. No screen time for children under 18 months. When to call your pediatrician: If your toddler isn't walking steadily, struggles with stairs, doesn't try to jump, or seems very unsteady. Also, if they are not using gestures or words to communicate needs or have very limited eye contact.

Cleanup

  • 🧹 Peel off painter's tape and put pillows back in their place.
