Learning benefits
- 💡 This activity provides a rich sensory experience that is safe for toddlers who still explore with their mouths. It helps develop fine motor skills through scooping and transferring, improves hand-eye coordination, and encourages early language development as caregivers describe textures and actions. It also supports independent play and problem-solving. Milestones this age: Begins to run • Climbs on and off furniture unsupported • Scribbles with crayon • Builds a tower of 4 or more blocks • Points to pictures or objects when named • Says several single words
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Always supervise your child closely during play, especially with taste-safe materials, to ensure they are used appropriately. • Ensure all materials are non-toxic and age-appropriate. • If using oil, provide a non-slip surface and contain spills to prevent slips. • Do not leave children unattended near any amount of liquid; water safety includes active supervision around even 1 inch of water. • Remember, this is taste-safe, not intended as a meal. When to call your pediatrician: If your child isn't walking steadily • Doesn't seem to notice or react to loud sounds • Isn't trying to imitate words or actions • Doesn't point to show you things • Has stopped gaining new skills.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Gather the cloud dough and store in an airtight container for future play (will last a few days). Shake the mat outside or vacuum any flour spills. Wipe down any surfaces with a damp cloth. Supervise hand washing thoroughly.
