Learning benefits
- 💡 This activity nurtures your baby's sense of touch, helping them build connections in their brain about different sensations. It also supports their ability to focus and pay attention, laying groundwork for future learning, and strengthens the loving bond between you and your baby through gentle interaction. Milestones this age: Holds head up briefly when on tummy • Brings hands to mouth • Looks at faces intently • Calms when stroked or picked up • Begins to follow objects with eyes.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Always supervise your baby during this activity. • Ensure all fabric swatches are clean, free of loose threads, and large enough (at least 4x4 inches) to prevent choking. • Never leave loose fabrics or toys with your baby unattended. • Always place your baby Alone, on their Back, in a Crib, for sleep. • No screens for babies under 18 months, except for live video chat. • No honey for babies under 1 year. • Always be mindful of choking hazards: nothing smaller than 1.25 inches in diameter without close supervision. When to call your pediatrician: Seems very floppy or stiff • Doesn't respond to loud sounds • Doesn't bring hands to mouth by 3 months • Doesn't focus on faces or objects nearby • Doesn't track objects with eyes.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Fold and put away fabric swatches. Wipe down the play mat if needed.
