Learning benefits
- 💡 This activity fosters a tactile understanding of closed loop systems and basic physics. Children learn spatial organization as they physically separate positive and negative currents, while working the dough enhances bilateral finger strength and coordination.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Adult supervision is required when handling the 9-volt battery and LED leads. Ensure the battery terminals or bare wire ends never touch each other directly, as this can cause short-circuit heating. Disconnect the battery when not actively playing.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Wipe your workspace down with a damp sponge to remove any sticky salt or sugar residue. Store the conductive and insulating doughs in separate air-tight containers in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, and wipe the LED prongs clean with a dry cloth.
