- 💡 This game gives your child a concrete reason to practice back-and-forth conversation, including asking, answering, waiting, and building on someone else’s idea. Holding a puppet role supports flexible thinking because your child can try out opinions, jokes, and feelings through a character. Remembering the guest’s backstory and the show segments exercises working memory in a playful way. When you slow down, offer choices, or name the guest’s feelings, you also support co-regulation and emotional perspective-taking.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Keep the stage on the floor, couch, or a stable table edge; avoid having children climb behind tall furniture or drape blankets over lamps to make a theater. If using socks, strings, buttons, or paper-bag puppets with younger siblings nearby, check for loose pieces that could be mouthed and choose plain hand puppets or hands instead. Avoid poking puppet sticks, pencils, or hard props near faces during excited “celebrity entrance” moments. For children who are sensitive to loud voices, agree on a “studio volume” before the show starts.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Have the puppets thank the stuffed guest, then return everyone to a clear “backstage” spot such as a basket, shelf, or pillow. Fold any blanket stage and do one quick floor check for socks, paper scraps, or small puppet decorations before moving on.
