Learning benefits
- 💡 This activity supports self-regulation because your child practices slowing their breath and movements while still feeling in charge. The silent rule builds executive function: they have to remember the poses, inhibit talking, and sequence actions in order. Mirroring strengthens nonverbal communication and co-regulation, as your calm pace gives their nervous system something steady to match. Gentle poses also build body awareness, balance, and motor planning without turning quiet time into a performance.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Keep poses low, slow, and gentle; avoid headstands, deep backbends, forced splits, or any pose that makes your child hold their breath. Clear the floor first so a child stepping into mountain or star does not slip on books, toys, or loose blankets. For ages 3-4, skip balance challenges and keep the stuffed animal small enough that it does not block their face or make them strain to hold it. If your child says something hurts, stop that pose right away and switch to breathing with the stuffed animal in their lap.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Invite your child to carry the stuffed animal to its resting place, such as a bed, basket, or pillow. Smooth the rug or floor space together and return any moved cushions or toys. End with the same quiet cue each time, like a thumbs-up and “Stuffie yoga is closed,” to help the calm feeling carry into the next routine.
