Learning benefits
- 💡 This activity bolsters gross motor skills through varied movements like spinning, leaping, and stretching. It also develops auditory processing and body control as children must listen carefully to commands and react quickly by changing their dance style or freezing on cue.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Ensure the play area is completely clear of tripping hazards like toys or rug corners, providing at least a 10-foot diameter space for movement. Instruct children to keep a safe distance, at least an arm's length, from one another to prevent being accidentally struck by a spinning dowel or ribbon during energetic movements like a 'Hurricane'.
Cleanup
- 🧹 After the activity is over, collect all the ribbon wands and show the children how to wrap the ribbons neatly around each dowel to prevent tangling. Store the bundled wands in a designated craft box or bin, and return any furniture that was moved back to its original position.
