Beyond language, it encourages curiosity and cognitive connections about their environment. Milestones this age: Your baby might be able to sit without support, transfer objects from one hand to another, respond to their name, and babble strings of sounds like "mama" and "dada." They're also developing object permanence, understanding that things still exist even when they can't see them.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Always supervise your baby during this activity. • Ensure all objects pointed to are safe, clean, and free of small parts that could be choking hazards (anything smaller than a 1.25-inch diameter). • Secure any heavy furniture to the wall to prevent tipping. • Keep electrical cords out of reach. • Remember: Alone, Back, Crib for safe sleep – no loose blankets, bumpers, or toys in the crib. • No screens for babies under 18 months, except for live video chats. • Never give honey to a baby under one year old due to the risk of botulism. When to call your pediatrician: If your baby isn't attempting to sit up, doesn't respond to their name when called, isn't babbling, or seems uninterested in interacting with people or objects, please discuss these observations with your pediatrician.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Simply put away any extra blankets or toys used. The primary "materials" are your baby's surroundings and your engaged presence, so cleanup is minimal!
