- 💡 This activity introduces your baby to the exciting concept of cause and effect – "If I drop the block, it disappears and then reappears!" It also strengthens their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they learn to grasp and manipulate objects to fit into a space, building early problem-solving abilities. Milestones this age: Babies at this age might be pulling themselves up to stand, cruising around furniture, waving "bye-bye," picking up small objects with a pincer grasp, and responding to their name. They are also starting to understand simple commands and may point to things they want.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Always supervise your baby during playtime to prevent choking hazards. Ensure all blocks and shapes are larger than 1.25 inches in diameter. • Always place your baby on their back to sleep, alone in a crib or bassinet that meets safety standards, without any loose blankets, bumpers, or toys. • No screens for babies under 18 months, except for live video calls with family. • Never give honey to infants under one year of age. • Keep small objects, choking hazards (e.g., whole grapes, nuts, popcorn, hot dogs, hard candies), and potential strangulation risks out of reach. When to call your pediatrician: If your baby is not crawling, dragging one side of their body while crawling, cannot stand with support, does not search for things they see you hide, does not babble ("mama," "dada"), or does not wave "bye-bye," please talk to your pediatrician.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Gather the blocks and store them in the box or a designated toy bin. Put the box away for future play sessions.
