Learning benefits
- 💡 This activity significantly boosts your baby's fine motor skills, helping them gain greater control over their hands and fingers. It also enhances hand-eye coordination and introduces the concept of bilateral coordination, where both sides of the body work together, which is crucial for future development like crawling and self-feeding. Milestones this age: Holds head steady when supported • Rolls over from tummy to back or back to tummy • When lying on stomach, pushes up with straight arms • Brings hands to mouth • Grasps objects at midline • Reaches for and grabs toys.
Safety notes
- ⚠️ Always supervise your baby during playtime to prevent choking hazards. Ensure all silicone rings are larger than 1.25 inches in diameter to prevent accidental ingestion. • Practice ABCs of Safe Sleep: Alone, on their Back, in a Crib. • No screens for babies under 18 months, except for live video calls with family. • No honey for babies under 1 year. • Keep small objects, choking hazards (e.g., whole nuts, grapes, popcorn, hard candies), and potential strangulation risks out of reach. When to call your pediatrician: If your baby is not reaching for objects by 6 months • Doesn't bring things to their mouth by 6 months • Has very stiff or floppy limbs • Seems to favor one side of their body • Isn't making eye contact or smiling by 6 months.
Cleanup
- 🧹 Gather all silicone rings and store them in a clean container or basket for future play. Wipe down any surfaces used for the activity.
